I was surprised to find out how much I enjoyed the Charlie Chaplin films. Even without words or color the practical jokes were still very funny. With the little I know about him, he seems like he was quite the business man. To have made a million dollars in the year 1918, he had to have been doing something right. One thing I noticed again and again was that the same jokes he was using back in the day are still used in movies even today. It was enjoyable to watch.
Buddy Gleason was also quite the character. His movie, although it was very long, was pretty entertaining. I was also thinking about how he was not only funny with the things he did, but he had to be in pretty good shape too. He jumped on and off that train a hundred times, threw the logs all the way up on top of the train and ran after the dang thing a hundred or so times. These movies were on the cusp of the industry. The audiences had to find them absolutely hilarious. I can only image the level of entertainment that this provided to that generation. No movie we see now could even compare.
