Transforming the Personal Injury Industry – An In-Depth Interview with Trevon Angulo
Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend Trevon Angulo at his newly built Video Podcast Studio for an engaging conversation about my journey from marketing to creating RECORD. Here’s the short story, but feel free to watch the whole interview up above.
The Early Days: Building a Marketing Company
My passion for marketing and technology led me to co-found NeONBRAND, a marketing agency, with my friend Chad Ramos. Our partnership with Trevon’s videography company, Canico Media, played a significant role in our success. We discussed the hardest parts of building a marketing company, which include finding and retaining the right people, as well as scaling time and resources effectively.
Creating a Positive Company Culture
I emphasized the importance of cultivating a positive and enjoyable company culture to retain talented team members. By engaging in fun activities such as Nerf wars, ping pong, and bus tours, we created an environment that encouraged personal and professional growth.
Venturing into Other Businesses
Our marketing experience enabled us to venture into various other businesses, including a CBD company, an investment recommendation website, a window cleaning service, and a tiny home company. Regardless of the industry, the focus remained on people – building trust and strong relationships with clients and partners.
The Birth of RECORD
The shift to working on RECORD occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was searching for a new challenge. The idea for RECORD came from identifying patterns within the personal injury industry, highlighting the need for improved communication and streamlined case management.
Building and Pivoting with RECORD
The process of building RECORD involved numerous interviews and several pivots before landing on the current concept. By employing the validation process taught by Startup Ignition, I ensured that customer feedback was incorporated into the app’s development. This approach allowed me to create a product that addresses real needs within the industry.
Tackling Challenges in the Personal Injury Space
RECORD aims to revolutionize the personal injury industry by solving three key issues:
- Empowering clients to manage their cases and enhancing attorney efficiency.
- Improving client satisfaction through better communication and case updates.
- Optimizing settlements by improving case quality.
The Role of AI in the Future of Personal Injury
We also discussed the potential impact of AI on the personal injury industry and how RECORD could adapt to a post-AI world. As a data collection point, RECORD can leverage AI to analyze cases and provide recommendations for improving case quality, ultimately benefiting both clients and attorneys.
Integrating with Case Management Software
One of the major features of RECORD is its ability to integrate with case management software, allowing for seamless communication between clients and attorneys. This integration enables legal professionals to focus on more critical aspects of case building while providing clients with access to their case information outside of regular business hours.
Pivoting and Adapting in the Startup World
Throughout the development of RECORD, the importance of pivoting and adapting to new information and feedback was emphasized. The ability to adjust and fine-tune the app based on real-world needs has been instrumental in its success.
Three Tips for Startups
As parting advice for aspiring entrepreneurs, I shared three key tips:
- Focus on building trust and strong relationships with people.
- Don’t build your product in the dark; seek customer feedback before development.
- Put in the time and effort required to grow your business.
